Dr. habil. Csongor Herke, DSc, is a prominent legal scholar specializing in criminal procedure and forensic sciences. He currently heads the Department of Criminal Procedure and Forensics at the University of Pécs, Faculty of Law, a position he has held since 2006. With over 200 publications, including major monographs and textbooks, Dr. Herke has made significant contributions to legal scholarship, particularly in criminal procedure and constitutional law. He earned his PhD in 2001 and his habilitation in 2008, focusing on consensual elements in criminal procedure, and was awarded the DSc title by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2013 for his work on the Prohibition of Aggravation in Criminal Procedure.
Dr. Herke has played a key role in shaping the criminal law curriculum at the University of Pécs, where he also served as Vice Dean for Education and Research from 2013 to 2018. His academic influence extends internationally, with active participation in numerous conferences and collaborations with legal scholars from countries such as Germany, Italy, Spain, and China. Dr. Herke has supervised multiple doctoral candidates, and five of his students have earned PhD degrees under his guidance.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Herke is a practicing attorney and has been involved in legal advisory work since 1997. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Hungarian Criminological Society and the International Criminal Law Association.
